Declaration by the Presidency on behalf of the European Union on Sudan

The European Union strongly requests the Government of Sudan and all other parties to the armed conflict in Southern Sudan to extend the current ceasefire which expires on 15.01.1999 to all parts of the country without any time limit in order to facilitate humanitarian assistance to the suffering people of Sudan.

At the same time the European Union equally supports the mission of the IPF-Presidency to the Region which is scheduled for the end of January 1999.

The Central and Eastern European countries associated with the European Union, the associated country Cyprus and the EFTA countries, members of the European Economic Area align themselves with this declaration.
