PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AT THE FOREIGN OFFICE


- Head of the Western Balkans Department
2001/1998
  During this period, Maryse Daviet carefully followed the EU actions in the Western Balkans. In particular, she attended the Council's "Western Balkans working group meetings, which she chaired during the French Presidency of the EU (second half of 2000).
She travelled in the region and she met most of the local leaders.

In this capacity, she took part in the following actions:
 
  • the ECMM's reform process (Council joint action 2000/811,22 December 2000, creating EUMM);
  • the preparation, on the French side, of the first EU-Western Balkans Summit (Zagreb - 24 November 2000);
  • the Rambouillet and Kleber Conferences on Kosovo (1999) and the implementation of UNSC Resolution 1244 by NATO (KFOR) and the United Nations (UNMIK);
  • the EU's policy/strategy with regard to the FRY, before Milosevic's fall (support to the G 17 and to the democratic opposition) and after (FRY's reintegration into the international community, support to the SG/HR's actions with regard to Montenegro and the relations between Serbia and Montenegro);
  • the meetings of the Steering Board for Bosnia and Herzegovina at political directors' level;
  • the definition of the EU Special Representative mandate in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and the follow up of the Ohrid Agreements;
  • the Stability Pact meetings (Regional Table in Thessaloniki and first meetings of Tables I, II et III);
  • the follow up of cooperation with ICTY for the French side.
- Political Counselor at the French Embassy in Rome
1998 / 1995
  In this capacity, Maryse Daviet participated, as member of the international Secretariat, in the preparation and in the follow up of Operation Alba led by Italy in Albania (spring 1997). She reported from Rome on the FRY's evolution and she attended the Contact Group meetings held in Rome.

- Humanitarian Counselor at the French Mission to the UN in Geneva

  Maryse Daviet :
  • followed the UN Agencies and the ICRC’s actions after the Gulf War;
  • actively participated in the airlift for Sarajevo and in the humanitarian actions related to Bosnia as well as to other armed conflicts (Africa and Caucasus);
  • attended meetings on the Humanitarian International Law (The Geneva Conventions) and on the missing persons and the prisoners of war (FRY, Iraq/Iran, Iraq/Kuwait).
