EU heads of state and government will convene on Monday to discuss the situation in Georgia. This extraordinary European Council meeting called by the ongoing French Presidency will take place at the headquarters of the Council of the European Union in Brussels.
Developments in Georgia had already given rise to a special meeting of EU ministers for foreign affairs on 13 August 2008. At that session the Council adopted conclusions in which it committed itself to assist in the resolution of the crisis.
