The different types of document / file

Until 1973, the official languages of the EEC and the EAEC were French, German, Italian and Dutch. The files therefore consist of documents in one or more of those languages, although French predominates.
The files also contain documents in other languages like English and Spanish produced in most cases by national agencies (missions) or international bodies (UN, GATT), as well as (in English) Council meeting press releases.
The number of languages increases with each enlargement, as does the number of language versions of any given document.
Our collections consist primarily of minutes of Council meetings and files for meetings of the European Council, Coreper and other committees. They also contain budgetary files and files relating to the preparation of directives, regulations and decisions in a wide range of areas including agriculture, the environment, trade, energy and transport.
