Legal texts - where to find them?

European Union legal texts are published in the Official Journal of the European Union. The easiest ways to obtain them are:

  • Recent editions of the Official Journal and the treaties are accessible free of charge via the EUR-Lex database.

  • The EUR-Lex Directory of legislation in force provides references for Regulations, Decisions, Recommendations and Directives, classified by subject matter. It also gives a link to the full text of the act concerned in all official languages.

  • You can also order Official Journals and other documents in paper form from the Publications Office of the European Union and receive them via e-mail, fax or post.

  • The European Documentation Centres, which are located in the libraries of numerous universities and research institutes throughout the Union, also offer comprehensive data files and privileged access to the above data base.
